What: We will observe Remember Me Thursday on September 25, 2025 here at the Michiana Humane Society. It will be our 12th anniversary of this beautiful event. You are invited to dedicate candles in memory of your pets who are no longer here.
On the fourth Thursday of September, people gather all over the world to remember beloved pets who have died, and shelter animals who never found loving homes.
Remember Me Thursday is free to all. Children and leashed pets are welcome.
We will have a “decorating table” available beginning at 5:30pm CT. If you want to put photos, drawings, or messages on your luminarias, you may come into the shelter to pick up bags before September 24th. They will also be available the night of the event.
The shelter will be open to the public prior to the ceremony and briefly afterward. The traditional ceremony begins at 6:30pm CT, with a few words then the lighting of the luminarias. We will leave them glowing until the sun has gone down, so that everyone can have a quiet period to remember their pets.

On September 25, you can join us for a short candle-lighting ceremony around 7 p.m. to raise awareness for all orphan pets looking for homes now and honoring those that didn’t get that chance. Come out earlier at 5:30 to visit with the pets waiting for homes. Bring your own candles or we will have some on hand.

What: Remember Me Thursday is a nationwide event to celebrate the animals’ lives that are loved and lost throughout the year, with a special place for the dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes.
On September 25th in Azalea Park, Dorchester Paws will be remembering all of the pets that have found homes and those still waiting. It will be a night of celebration and reflection, and you can purchase a lantern to light up the night in honor of a pet that touched your life. All proceeds of this event go to the animals of Dorchester Paws.
