On Remember Me Thursday, I want to take a moment to express how grateful I am to everyone at the Pasadena Humane Society, and all the people who financially support their work, because they kept our dogs, Seamus and Marlowe, safe until we met them and became their forever home. Seamus is no longer with us, but the joy of his memory is everywhere I look around our home.

Marlowe is slowing down, but she still wags her entire body and somersaults into my lap when she gets excited, just like she did when my wife and I first met her over a decade ago. And I appreciate the patience of our cat, Watson, adopted from a different shelter, who just gave us passing grades on our annual staff performance review, though he noted that he could see the bottom of his dish that one time, and there is room for improvement.

There’s just no reason to buy from a breeder, or support the puppy mill industry, when animal shelters are full — too full — of wonderful animals, just like ours, who are waiting to meet their forever families.

On Remember Me Thursday, and always, I encourage you to adopt, don’t shop. If you can, please support your local Humane Society and animal shelters.

And please give your pets a big scritch from Uncle Wil, and tell them I love them.
